The Center for Advanced Teaching and Learning belongs to the network "Hochschuldidaktik NRW"(Higher Education North-Rhine-Westphalia). Through the association between centres of Higher Education and workplaces in NRW, the ZHD can offer a participation in the further education programme "Professional teaching competence for the university" to all teachers of University of Cologne. It includes a sound basic didactic qualification and finishes with a certificate. Within the network "Hochschuldidaktik NRW", further qualifications are coordinated, e.g. for tutors in university teaching and university didactic coaches.

The “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hochschuldidaktik” (German Society for University Didactics) represents the scientific association in the field of university didactics and thus poses the central forum for research and development in this area. Furthermore, it fulfils important tasks in quality assurance. The employees of the ZHD participate in AGs and commissions of DGHD in various ways.

The ZHD is involved with many other universities in the "Rheinländisches Verbundszertifikatsprogramm zur hochschuldidaktischen Qualifizierung von Tutor*innen". The Verbundszertifikatsprogramm offers participants the opportunity to acquire relevant key skills for their studies and work and to have a successful completion of the program certified.
